Univ of Memphis football player killed

UPDATE(10/9/07): Three men have been charged with murder while attempting aggravated robbery in the shooting death of Taylor Bradford.

Original Post Date 10/1/07:
A University of Memphis student was killed in an on-campus shooting late Sunday night, a university police dispatcher said.

The campus newspaper identified the victim as Taylor Bradford, a junior defensive lineman from Nashville. He was shot in his car at Carpenter Complex about 10 p.m. Sunday in what police said was not a random attack.

Bradford had apparently walked out of his dormitory late Sunday and was in his car when he was shot in the chest. The car ran into a tree a short distance from the campus, police said.

Bradford, 21 transferred to Memphis from Samford University in 2006.

With the assailant at large, university officials ordered the campus locked down and canceled Monday's classes.

"Taylor was my brother," Will Terrell, president of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, told the student paper. "We will miss him dearly. He will be remembered. He loved to play football. He loved his family, he loved his friends and he loved Kappa. He was always full of innovation and ideas. If you were around him, you were going to have a good time."
