Do you know your ranking??

I was over @ Mrs. Grapevine and Sincere Thoughts and saw this post about BBR (Black Blogger Rankings). This list is a very helpful tool in knowing where your blog stands in the black blogosphere. Right now I am at #211 out of 651 (not bad, but there is always room for improvement). If you are not on the list, all you have to do is drop them a line. It is that easy.
While you are there, check out tips on how to market your blog.

Thanks to Electric Village for putting together the list together.

Celebrities' New Year Resolutions

Photobucket

EVE:
“To try and be more on time.”

Black Eyed Peas’ WILL.I.AM:
“To chill, max out. Just do my fizzle, you know.”

ADRIANNE CURRY:
“I’m quitting smoking. I’m going to take Chantix, a pill that helps you quit. It affects your brain. My husband [Christopher Knight] has been taking it. The only downside I’ve seen is that it gives you really bad nightmares. He doesn’t remember, but I know because he’s screaming and waking me up."

REGINA KING:
“My same resolution from last year: to stop cursing.”

ANDERSON COOPER:
“I promise I will blog every day. Right now I blog about once every two months.”

FOREST WHITAKER:
“I want to get even closer to my family. I want to be happy all the time. I pressure myself so much that I forget what I’m doing and why I’m doing it. I’m in the middle of amazing things, and I’m so focused on them – I don’t even experience them!”

Do you ever keep your new year's resolutions??

Don't forget to send in your new year's resolutions, you could be the winner of a Best Buy gift card.

If you or someone you know...

In light of all the Raz B/Chris Stokes controversy, we have to focus on a bigger issue: molestation and rape. As bloggers we are charged with entertaining AND informing our readers. What Raz B failed to do was include numbers and/or websites that victims of these heinous acts can go to seek help.

If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, please contact your local law enforcement agency. Don't feel as if you are alone because unfortunately more people have been sexually abuse than reported. This is not a laughing matter and everyone deserves a chance to get help.

Happy Thanksgiving

Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds. ~Theodore Roosevelt

What Classic Movie Are You??

While on one of my blogging friends sites, Invisible Woman, I came across this test to see which movie best fit my life:
http://similarminds.com/movie.html. The more questions you answer the more accurate the results (IW thanks for the heads-up!!) .

Madea's Thanksgiving Rules

This is sent to me by email and I wanted to share with you.

With Thanksgiving approaching, here are some rules from Madea that should be observed:

Print and give copy to each guests that enters your home.
10 RULES FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER AT MY HOUSE

1. Don't get in line asking questions about the food. "Who made
the potato salad? Is it egg in there? Are the greens fresh?
Is the meat in the greens turkey or pork? Who made the macaroni and cheese?
What kind of pie is that? Who made it? Ask one more question
and I will punch you in your mouth, knocking out all your fronts so
you won't be able to eat anything.

2. If you can't walk or are missing any limbs, sit your ass down
until someone makes your plate for you. Dinner time is not the
time for you to be independent. Nibble on them damn pecans and walnuts
to hold you over until someone makes you a plate.

3. If you have kids under the age of twelve, I will escort their
little asses to the basement and bring their food down to them. They
are not gonna tear my damn house up this year. Tell them that
they are not allowed upstairs until it's time for Uncle Butchie to start
tellingfamily stories about their mommas and papas. If they
come upstairs for any reason except for that they are bleeding to death, I will
break a foot off in their asses!

4. There is going to be one prayer for Thanksgiving dinner! JUST
ONE! We do not care that you are thankful that your 13 year old
daughter gave birth to a healthy baby or your nephew just got out
of jail. Save that talk for somebody who gives a damn. The time limit for the prayer
is one minute. If you are still talking after that one minute isup, you
will feel something hard come across your lips and they will be swollen for approximately 20 minutes.

5. Finish everything on your plate before you go up for seconds! If you don't, you will be cursed out and asked to stay your greedy ass home next year!

6. BRING YOUR OWN TUPPERWARE!! Don't let me catch you fixing yourself a plate in my good Tupperware knowing damn well that I will never see it again! Furthermore, if you didn't bring anything over, don't let me catch you making a plate period or it will be a misunderstanding.

7. What you came with is what you should leave with!! Do not leave
my house with anything that doesn't belong to you. EVERYBODY WILL BE SUBJECTED TO A BODY SEARCH COMING AND GOING OUT OF MY DOMAIN!!!

8. Do not leave your kids so you can go hopping from house to house. This is not a DAYCARE CENTER ! There will be a kid-parent roll call every ten minutes. Any parent that is not present at the time of roll call, your child will be put outside until you come and get him or her. After 24 hours, I will call DHS on your ignorant ass!!

9. BOOK YOUR HOTEL ROOM BEFORE YOU COME INTO TOWN!! There will be no sleeping over at my house! You are to come and eat dinner and take your ass home or to your hotel room. EVERYBODY GETS KICK THE HELL OUT AT 11:00 pm. You will get a 15 minute warning bell ring.

10. Last but not least! ONE PLATE PER PERSON!! This is not a soup kitchen. I am not trying to feed your family until Christmas dinner! You will be supervised when you fix your plate. Anything over the appropriate amount will be charged to you before you leave. There will be a cash register at the door. Thanks to Cousin Alfred and his greedy ass family, we now have a credit card machine! So VISA and MASTERCARD are now being accepted. NO FOOD STAMPS OR ACCESS CARDS YET!

Daylight savings time has a purpose...or does it?

I found this post on AOL's Black Voices:

So your clock went back an hour on Sunday or maybe Monday. But what for? Doesn't it seem like a big waste of time?

Sorry, bad joke/pun.

When the federal government decided to extend daylight saving time by a month the big reason was energy. Right?

The annoying exercise of setting your clocks back an hour and being confused by wrong clocks around you was pushed back by one week to November under a new law this year. It began three weeks earlier than usual in March too, when clocks were pushed forward.

But guess what? You're saving energy.

Finally! Daylight saving time has a purpose ... or does it?

Energy policy professor Marilyn Brown told The Associated Press a study shows the daylight saving extension produces energy savings of about 30 cents per family. And back during World War I, when daylight saving was put in place, that 30 cents could probably buy a pack of cigarettes or a gallon of gas. Today, you can't even mail a letter with 30 cents.

The time change was to save energy because people had more daylight in the evening and didn't have to turn on lights, according to the AP. Brown says it adds up and the U.S. saves about 200 million dollars a year. Brilliant!

Others, like this Web site to "End Daylight Saving Time," are skeptical and say studies on energy savings are garbage.

DST cost U.S. companies billions to reset automated equipment, put us further out of sync with Asia and Africa time-wise, inconvenienced most of the country, all in the name of unproven studies that claim we save energy, the Web site to End DST says. ...

Out of sync is right. Get this, turning the clock back can be deadly for pedestrians.

There are a higher number of deaths after clocks are set back in fall and it's not the darkness, but the adjustment to an earlier nighttime that'll get you run over, professors Paul Fischbeck and David Gerard, both of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, told the AP.

"A three times increase in the risk is really dramatic," he said.

In other words, try not to run over any jaywalking tonight.

The researchers report that per-mile risk jumps 186 percent from October to November, but then drops 21 percent in December, amounting to about 37 extra deaths a year.

Time Warner CEO May Step Down Next Week

Time Warner CEO May Step Down Next Week

Richard Parsons feeling pressure to exit before contract expires

by Meredith Davis

Time Warner Inc., the world’s largest media and entertainment company with $42.9 billion in revenues in 2006, may be seeing a change in leadership sooner than expected. Speculation has increased about the early departure of Richard Parsons, 59, the CEO and chairman of the board of the entertainment conglomerate, with industry analysts saying that it could be as soon as next week.

While long rumored to be leaving, Parson’s contract is not due to expire until May 2008. A call to a Time Warner spokesperson was not immediately returned. Jeffrey Bewkes, Time Warner’s president and chief operating officer is the front-runner for the CEO post.

Parsons assumed the top spot at Time Warner in May 2002, two years after its merger with America Online, now considered as one of the worst performing media mega-mergers. Parsons, a New York native, also took on the title of chairman of the board in May 2003 after Steve Case of AOL stepped down.

The company’s stock price languished after the merger and has remained stagnant since. News of Parsons’ potential early exit caused Time Warner’s stock price to rise 4% to $18.46 today; a near high for the day but a low for this year after reaching about $23 in January.

In late 2005, billionaire investor Carl Icahn, whose company owns a 3.3% stake in the media company, rallied for a breakup of the mega-company, but killed his campaign early last year once Parsons agreed to a stock buyback that buoyed the stock price some.

Investors should be keyed into a company’s leadership because changes can give clues to the direction of the company. Time Warner Inc. businesses include interactive services, cable systems, filmed entertainment, television networks and publishing. (SOURCE)

Nine words women say...

I received this and thought I would share. Men, please take note and be aware...

Nine words women use...
>
>1.) Fine : This is the word women use to end an argument when they are
>right and you need to shut up.
>
>2.) Five Minutes : If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour.
>Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more
>minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
>
>3.) Nothing : This is the calm before the storm. This means something,
>and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing
>usually end in fine.
>
>4.) Go Ahead : This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!
>
>5.) Loud Sigh : This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement
>often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an
>idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time
>standing here and arguing
>with you about nothing. (Refer back to #3 for the meaning of nothing.)
>
>6.) That's Okay : This is one of the most dangerous statements a woman
>can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard
>before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
>
>7.) Thanks : A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say
>you're welcome.
>
>8.) Whatever : Is a woman's way of saying @#**?! YOU!
>
>9.) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning
>this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but
>is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking
>'What's
>wrong?' For the woman's response refer to #3.
